Experience

An expert for a reason

Dentist for 43 years: 26 years in academics (teaching and group faculty practice) and 17 years in private general practice. The combination of private practice experience as a general dentist/practice owner and prosthodontist in a faculty practice, yields an expert that can evaluate the patient’s previous dental treatment and make a statement regarding the standard of care provided. Prosthodontists promote the highest standard of patient care.

About Us

Experienced

Dr. Williamson maintained a solo general practice in College Station, Texas for 17 years before returning to post-graduate school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he earned a Certificate in Prosthodontics and an M.S. in Oral Biology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of both the American College of Prosthodontists and International College of Dentists.

Twenty-six of Dr. Williamson’s forty-three years in dentistry have been devoted to both private patient care and teaching at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry.

Currently, Dr. Williamson is an Associate Professor and Director of Implants at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. He teaches clinical implantology to both pre-doctoral students and Periodontal post-doctoral dentists. He has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Williamson understands from personal experience the challenges of dental private practice. This enhances his ability to dissect the often-confusing aspects of dental care from a provider’s perspective, and his specialty training and experience enhances his ability to fairly evaluate, without bias, the documented facts and the patient’s treatment outcome.

Our Process

Thorough

All dental care should begin with a doctor-patient one-on-one conversation regarding the patient’s concerns, goals for treatment and expectations. Treatment begins with a comprehensive intraoral/extraoral examination, review of medical, dental, social histories, study of the patient’s oral structures along with review of all necessary imaging (radiographs, CBCT, Smile Analysis). A comprehensive treatment plan is mandatory for attaining predictable and excellent treatment outcomes.

Prosthodontists mostly receive their patients by referral from general dentists or other specialists because the patients’ dental conditions and treatment needs are complex. A Prosthodontist has at least 3 additional years of advanced training after receiving the D.D.S. degree to acquire specialized knowledge and expertise. The Prosthodontist develops the appropriate treatment plan to return the patient back to maximum comfort, function, health and esthetics and will often coordinate care from other dental specialists to meet the treatment goals. Their training and expertise along with state-of-the-art advanced technologies, increases efficiency and predictability of the treatment outcomes.

Very often patients are referred to the Prosthodontist for comprehensive re-treatment to correct previous failed attempts or breakdown of previous dental work. A comprehensive evaluation as outlined above, is necessary to ensure the best outcomes of care and patient health.

About Us

Our Difference

In addition to Dr. Williamson’s advanced education and Board Certification in Prosthodontics, his private general practice experience gives him a good understanding of the demands and challenges of owning and operating a private general practice. This is helpful in reviewing the records and treatment the patient received.

Twenty-six years of teaching dentistry is helpful in educating the attorney on dentistry so they can focus on the application of the laws. Dentistry is both an art and science and as such, dentists can have different opinions on how to treat a patient. However, there are Standards of Care that must be adhered to, and scientific evidence must be used to guide appropriate care. This is called evidence-based dentistry, and it is the integration of the best scientific evidence available with dental expertise while considering the patient’s needs and desires.
